IUROP Translate
What IUROP Translate translates, and what it can’t
We translate everything Shopify lets an app translate, and we save it in your store. What Shopify doesn’t let apps touch, we tell you about here and inside the app, so you don’t have to find out on your own.
What we translate automatically
As soon as you create or edit it, and in every scheduled check of your store:
Products: title, description, product type, search engine title and description.
Options and variants: option names (Size, Color) and their values (Red, Medium).
Image alt text for products, collections and blog posts.
Collections: title, description and SEO.
Pages, blogs and blog posts.
Menus and their links.
Store filter names (filter values come from options and metafields, which we also translate).
Your theme: buttons, messages, sections, header and footer, and text settings. If you switch or update your theme, what was already translated is restored at no cost.
Policies (returns, privacy, shipping…). We recommend reviewing them: they’re legal texts.
Shipping methods and subscription plans (name and description).
Metafields (custom fields) with text that Shopify marks as translatable.
Homepage title and description for search engines.
If you turn them on in Settings
Notification emails and packing slips. They’re templates full of code: we check the code stays intact, but it’s worth reviewing the first one.
URLs of products, collections, pages, blogs and blog posts:
/fr/products/maillot-olainstead of/fr/products/bikini-ola. They’re created once and never changed again, so links and rankings don’t break.Checkout and customer accounts in languages Shopify doesn’t cover (Catalan, for example). In the languages Shopify already translates, we leave them alone: Shopify’s versions are good and they don’t count toward your plan.
Drafts and archived products. By default, only what’s on sale gets translated.
What can’t be translated (and why)
It’s not that we don’t want to: Shopify doesn’t give these texts to any translation app, or doesn’t store them per language.
Product tags
Shopify has no translations for them. If you filter by tag, the filter shows in your original language.
Filter by options or metafields, which do get translated.
Same as tags: one value for every language, including in filters.
If it matters, show it with a translatable metafield.
Store name
Shopify stores it only once.
We do translate the homepage title and description for search engines.
The words “products”, “collections” or “pages” in URLs
They’re part of Shopify: /fr/products/…. Only the last part is translated, if you turn on translated URLs.
Nothing. Google understands it fine.
Text hard-coded in your theme
It isn’t a “translation key”, so Shopify doesn’t give it to any app.
The app finds it and shows you the file and line. Your theme developer can turn it into translatable text; as soon as they do, we translate it automatically.
Text from other apps (reviews, chat, pop-ups, checkout extensions)
Each app stores its own text in its own way, outside Shopify’s translations.
Check that app’s language settings. The app tells you which apps are inside your theme.
Parts of checkout
Shopify translates checkout and customer accounts into about 30 languages. Some texts (for example, Shop Pay Installments) can’t be changed.
For languages Shopify doesn’t cover, turn on the checkout option in Settings.
Text inside images
An image isn’t text. We translate its alt text, not what’s drawn on it.
Upload images without text, or one per language from your theme.
Prices and currencies
That’s not translation: it’s Shopify Markets.
Set it up in Shopify › Markets.
What you exclude
If you exclude content, we don’t touch it or count it.
Include it again from Texts: it gets translated right away.
What we do so nothing catches you off guard
We visit your store in every language, like a customer, and let you know if a page is still in the original language, if “translation missing” shows up, if there’s no language switcher, if a published language isn’t in any market, or if your pages tell Google the wrong language.
We show you what’s missing and why: in Texts, every untranslated text shows the reason.
We never overwrite your manual edits, or what you translated with another tool if you choose so.
If the original changes, the translation is redone. If you had edited it by hand, we let you know so you can review it.
What your store needs
A Shopify plan that lets you publish languages (Basic or higher). On Starter or Lite, Shopify doesn’t allow selling in other languages.
For customers to see a language, it has to be published and assigned to a market or domain. The app does this when you pick your languages and tells you if one is left out.
